Proof of Work (PoW) is a consensus algorithm used to secure blockchain networks by requiring participants to solve complex mathematical puzzles using computational power. This process validates transactions and adds new blocks to the chain.
Miners compete to solve these puzzles, and the first to succeed is rewarded with newly minted coins and transaction fees.
Although PoW provides robust security, it is often criticized for its high energy consumption and environmental impact.
